Albert C. Hyde

Al Hyde is a Visiting Professor for 2017-18 academic year. He will be teaching classes in Introductory Public Administration, Public Budgeting, and Leadership. He was Senior Scholar in Residence at the Department of Public Administration & Policy at American University in Washington DC last academic year. He was previously the Director of the Public Administration Program at San Francisco State University and remains an adjunct professor and lecturer with that program. His other academic appointments in Public Administration included the University of Pittsburgh (where he was department chair), University of Colorado at Denver and the University of Houston/Clear Lake.

From 1992 to 2009, he was a senior staff member and director of management consulting for the Center for Public Policy Education at the Brookings Institution in Washington D.C.  His work with Brookings included multiple year projects with a number of federal agencies: US Forest Service, Treasury, Interior, Customs, NSA, and the National Library of Medicine, among others. He was a member of the Clinton-Gore Transition Team in 1993, serving on the working group that oversaw federal workforce policy and OPM. In 2001, he was a consulting advisor to the federal unions (NTEU) on the Bush-Chaney transition and later was the senior facilitator for the Department of Homeland Security personnel policy reorganization.

Earlier in his practionier’s career, he was a Foreign Service Officer serving in the US State Department and a Senior Analyst with the New York State Legislature. His PhD is from the Graduate School of Public Affairs at the State University of New York at Albany in Political Science and his MPA is in Public Budgeting.
