Brian W. Caputo

Brian W. Caputo became the chief financial officer/city treasurer for the City of Aurora in 1998. Previously, he held the positions of director of finance/treasurer for the Village of Mount Prospect and assistant finance director for the villages of LaGrange and Hoffman Estates. Caputo also worked as an auditor with Price Waterhouse in Chicago.

Caputo is a past president of the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association (IGFOA) and a past chair of the IGFOA’s Technical Accounting Review Committee. Caputo is an adjunct professor of public finance at NIU. On July 1, 2015, he became a member of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The GASB establishes financial reporting standards for state and local governments in the United States.

Caputo holds a B.S. from the United States Military Academy, an M.S. in accountancy from DePaul University and an M.P.A. from NIU. He earned a Ph.D. degree from NIU with fields of study in public administration, public policy and government finance. Caputo is a certified public accountant and a certified public finance officer.

In 2004, Caputo retired from the United States Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel. During his more than 22 years of active and reserve military service, he specialized in financial and human resources management.
